Crop an image online
Cropping keeps the part of a photo that matters and drops the rest. That's useful for a square profile picture, a wide banner, or simply straightening up an awkward shot. Drag the box to frame your selection and fine-tune it with the handles; the crop is taken at the image's full resolution, so nothing is softened. Your photo stays on your own device the entire time.
How to crop an image
- Add your image. Drag and drop it onto the box above, paste with Ctrl+V, or click Select an image.
- Position the selection box. Drag inside it to move it, and pull the handles on the edges and corners to resize it.
- Straighten if needed. Drag the Straighten slider to level a crooked horizon. The crop area zooms so there are no blank corners; double-click the slider to snap back to 0°.
- Pick an aspect ratio if you need one — Free, 1:1 (square), 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9. In a fixed ratio the box keeps its shape as you resize.
- Click Crop image. The cropped version is created instantly in your browser at full resolution, keeping the original format.

What is aspect ratio?
Aspect ratio is the relationship between width and height. A 1:1 crop is a perfect square (handy for profile pictures), while 16:9 is a wide rectangle (common for video thumbnails and banners). Choose Free to crop to any shape you like.

Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The image is cropped entirely in your browser on your own device. It never leaves your computer, which keeps it completely private.
Does cropping reduce the quality?
No. Cropping simply keeps the part of the image you selected at its original resolution — it doesn't stretch or shrink the pixels you keep.
Can I crop to a square or a specific shape?
Yes. Pick an aspect-ratio preset such as 1:1 for a square, or 16:9 for a wide banner. The selection box then keeps that shape while you resize it. Choose Free for any shape.
Can I straighten a crooked photo?
Yes. Use the Straighten slider to rotate the image up to 45° in either direction, which is handy for levelling a tilted horizon. The crop area zooms automatically so there are no blank corners, and you crop the straightened result in one step.
Does cropping change the file format?
